Living With a Fragile Person
When did I realize that Fran is “fragile,” a word that I learned from her. Was it after the cancer? How did it manifest itself, and how did I respond? For years Fran was, at least to my mind, far from fragile. She was assertive, confident in many areas: her work, her knowledge of the world, her cooking skills. And especially her insights into people and herself, which also related to her work as a therapist.
But for several years, the disagreements we are having seem to stem from the problems that are connected to the side effects from the cancer: the hearing loss, the lack of energy, walking limitations, forgetfulness.
